2005

In 2005 I had the oportunity to work with The Caravan Stage Barge which is a Thems River Barge  outfitted to be a stage. The caravan puts on politically charged, socially conscious musicals with acrobats and circus themes. It was an interesting few months. The Caravan was docked in Lafitte, Louisianna, just outside New Orleans.
Initially I went to do boat repairs. I replaced  planks and remade  hatches,. Then as showtime was approaching I was made apprentice to the most wonderful Jane Clugson: maskmaker extraordinaire. We casts of the actors faces and made custom masks for them. Jane had to leave before the masks were complete which left me to finish them. Recently I found some pictures of the masks and some promo shots for the show taken by  New Orleans photographer, Jenny Bagert.

One thing I can say...There can never be too much sequins or too many feathers!

I am going to hunt for more of these. I am sure I have more somewhere. The caravan is wintering in Italy this year. I woud love to spend more time with Nans and Paul (proprietors) Maybe when we have our own boat to sail. (Dream, Dream)

  1. I was just on Denman Island - the last time was c. 1987 (?), I was with Caravan Road Show, bringing the horses over on the ferry... seeing the hill brought it vividly back - I was holding Curley the Donkey and as we went up the first hill Curley freaked the horses and they all stampeded UP the hill as I tried to HOLD Curley back with a rope... Curley was always bugging the Clydes, they didn't know what to make of the creature -
